Secret Doors & Sculptural Accents: Designing A Webcam-Ready Workspace

Home Office Design

Project Type: Interior Design

Room: Home Office

Client Request: A chic and playful home office for an executive who works from home.

Client Requirements:

  • Big wall of bookshelves with hidden access to the closet
  • Jewel tones
  • Chic dog bed
  • A place to hang toddler art from her nieces and nephew
  • Design must look good on a webcam

Our Approach:

I wanted an artsy boutique feel for this office that embraces my client’s creativity. I opted for a bold, moody floral wallpaper on the wall behind the desk so it could be a conversational point in her virtual meetings. The bold eggplant wall color throughout the rest of the room helped to pull it all together.

I selected a fabulous sculptural side table– I knew this client would be open to something creative and edgy, and the nude male form was a hit.

The vice president of morale (a fluffy and adorable Havaneese dog) acquired an upgrade workstation (a dog bed) worthy of her recent promotion.

I played with texture, selecting a velvet accent chair and drapery treatment, and included her cherished childhood books in addition to estate sale findings for a pop of color on the bookshelves.

Before

After

We didn’t want to lose valuable storage in this small office space, so we created a hidden door in the bookcase.
